Sally Young currently has two children at ISMS.
“I have one child in Nautilus (Stage 2) and another who has just begun the Parent Toddler Program (PTP). My kids are so happy, and that makes me happy too!.”
Parent Toddler Program
18 months - 3 years
The ISMS Parent Toddler Program (PTP) currently operates five mornings per week at our Balmain campus.
A parent or carer attends with their child for 1 or 2 hours, once a week, in an environment specifically prepared to facilitate the child’s growing need for independence. The room contains only child sized furniture and activities that match the child’s stage of development. Sibling babies are welcome and free of charge until they are crawling.
A range of activities is offered, including:
- Language enrichment
- Exercises to refine eye-hand coordination
- Visual discrimination games
- Practical life exercises
- Art activities.
Independence
The children use the materials with the minimum of adult assistance and parents are made aware of the importance of allowing their children to complete and repeat tasks without interruption or interference. In this way children build up their attention span and the sense of doing it themselves.
The overall objective of the Montessori PTP is to increase the parent’s awareness of the child’s capabilities and need for independence, and transfer that to the home environment. Montessori PTP differs from a playgroup because the emphasis is on catering for the child’s urge towards independence and on faith in the child’s capabilities.
Information sessions each term
An information session is held each term for all new parents and carers to help them to understand their role in the classroom and to ask questions that may have arisen in their first few sessions.
PTP parents are encouraged to participate in school community and social events.
PTP Enrolments
Please note: Enrolment in the ISMS PTP is not a prerequisite for entry into the Inner Sydney Montessori School, nor does it place you on the school waiting list.
